Today I finished my front cover, contents page and double page spread and had it evaluated to see what i can improve on, and i started to re do my contents page a bit different as I wasn't happy with it. Next week we start on the evaluations so I'm going to work on improving on it in my own time.

Tuesday 22nd February.

Today I studie on getting my contents page finished and out the way and then to swiftly move onto my double page spread. I spent most of my time doing my contents page but got down to making a plan for my double page spread so I could get on with it a lot quicker.
My final contents page:

Monday 7th February

In todays lesson we had to get started on our contents page, before i could even get started i needed to plan out my idea, of what colour use, text and images i was going to use and most importantly, the layout of it.
To decide on the layout i wanted i created a flat plan to help me create my contents page.
After creating my flat plan i decided to look through my pictures i have collected so far to use on the contents page and decided where i would place them and also what sub-headings i was going to use to show the audience what exactly is in the contents of this music magazine.
This week i am going to take a few more photos to have a variation on the contents page and then next week im going to get started on creating it.

Monday 31st January

In this lesson i finally finished off my music magazine cover. Carrying on from where i left off last lesson; I filled in the gaps what i had left for my cover lines and set them out neatly and perfectly to create the effect i wanted for my front cover. I think i used the best fonts to get across the look i wanted which was the classic sort of look like the NME magazines i had been studying. Next lesson I'm hoping to get on with my contents page and hopefully it's as successful as my front cover.

Monday 24th January

In todays lesson i got started on designing my front cover, looking into the type of texts to use for a masthead, cover lines and making the date, issue, price and barcode.

I think so far my magazine cover is coming along nicely. I need to do more cover lines to show the viewers the content of the magazine and i'm looking forward to carry on with it next lesson.

Music Magazine Proposal

Music Magazine Analysis

Monday 17 January 2011

Monday 17th January

Today in lesson I had finished off all my music magazine analysis work and the music magazine proposal, coming up with what I am going to call my music magazine and great idea for what to include in my contents page and double cover spread. as I've summed it all up i'm looking forward to start creating my music magazine starting with my front cover, which I spent time today studying on each photo I had taken to see which one I liked the most and how I'm going to imagine it as a front cover for a magazine.

Photoshoot for my music magazine cover!

Sunday I took action on creating my image for my front cover of the music magazine. Luckily i had the opportunity to use a studio and the facilities to create my images which came together nicely and exactly how i imagined them to be.

Reflection on Student Magazine.

For my music magazine I created parts of it using Photoshop and InDesign. It took me 3 weeks to create both the front cover and contents page. For most of the designing I used Photoshop because I found it easier to use even though in design was recommended more for the contents page because it was better with layout. However I stuck to Photoshop for both the front cover and the contents page because I knew how to use it as I have previously.
I attempted to do my front cover on InDesign at first but I struggled even with rotating the image round and for it to fit the sized box. I think what I found difficult with InDesign is that it wasn’t as freely and moveable as Photoshop because with Photoshop the layers I selected to move I could dot it when I wanted to and go back to it and change it if I wasn’t happy with the design so far. Once I was used to Photoshop very well I got to creating the different layers quickly like the mastheads and main cover lines because the text effects and designs were quick to access and use to give you a visual on what it would look like, and easy to change if I wasn’t happy with it.

I think my student magazine as an overall was pretty good and looked very effective to catch peoples eyes as I made it look a lot like any other magazine, and for my first attempt of ever making one I think it went quite well.
